Early VW Split Case to Seimens Adapter
Early VW Split Case to Seimens Adapter
This adapter allows you to connect the Siemens 1PV5135 Motor to early split-case VW swing axle or IRS transmission from the VW Bug.
The adapter features an extremely high quality billet aluminum plate to adapt the motor to the transmission. But it also features a thrust bearing and integral coupler that accepts the Siemens shaft spline on one side and allows the VW flywheel and gland nut on the other.
This makes using this motor with any VW transaxle extremely easy. Just bolt the adapter onto the motor. Add your flywheel, gland nut, clutch and pressure plate, and bolt the assembly to the transmission. It can not be done more simply. The coupler is integral to the adapter.
The drawback on this assembly is length. You will need 22 inches from transmission face to rear of motor and the electrical and cooling connections are at the rear of the motor. This will normally involve modification of the rear structure of the car to accommodate this length.
But oh my. What a powerplant for a rail or competition bug. We used it on the VW Thing project.
